Catrin Jones
Caren Phillips, Ysgol Penglais PE Teacher, said:
"The 5x60 timetable provides a perfect opportunity for pupils of all ability to experience a wide range of activities outside the National Curriculum. The focus of the sessions in Penglais is on participation, fun and enjoyment, and gives the pupils a chance to socialise in a friendly environment. Mixed gender sessions and teams have been a new experience for the pupils and a great success, especially in bench ball and the 5-a-side football leagues."
Bryn Evans, Sport Ceredigion’s Active Young People Senior Officer, said:
"We are so pleased that Catrin has been rewarded for her efforts within her 5x60 schools. Catrin is conscientious, organised and engaging – personal qualities that have undoubtedly helped her in Ysgol Gyfun Penweddig and Penglais Comprehensive School.
"Over the last few months, a wide range of programmes have been made available to all pupils, though the most extraordinary have been those linked to Ceredigion’s natural resources. Catrin has utilised her locality and made the most of the surrounding coast and mountains by organising sessions in surfing, climbing and mountain biking."
Delighted with the success of the programme, Chair of the Sports Council for Wales, Professor Laura McAllister, said:
"We at the Sports Council are committed to our goal of ensuring every child is hooked on sport for life. The wide variety of exciting activities available to our young people through the 5x60 scheme, delivered by our greatest assets - dedicated people like Catrin – go a long way towards helping us realise that ambition."
Pupils are invited to visit www.5x60.org.uk and to nominate their officer.
